When Hope is the Answer
“La ou il y a de l’espoir, Il y a de la vie” …”Where there is hope, there is life“
-Cotaliya De La Livre | Grande-Mere Susie -
As life would have it, the winds will challenge trees, and the waves will challenge the shore, and as natural as the tide changing from high to low, life will challenge us all. Grande-Mere Susie would say, “ La ou it y de l’espoir, il y a de la vie,” or “ Where there is hope there is life.” This philosophy has been the formula of our family for generations. A formula that continues to provide comfort in knowing the possibilities are there. That “knowing” of possibilities fuels our will to move, to take action, to put in effort; that “knowing” is Hope!
Firstly, having “the” understanding, “the” knowing, or simply put “Hope” has to be the default within all challenges. This default allows us to keep moving forward no matter the season. At this point, we just know there is a way, sometimes out of no way or oftentimes just a better way. When we operate with this understanding, no delay is received as a denial. Each delay gives us more time to prepare, strategize, or simply gain clarity before achieving said goal or desire. Over the years and even recently, some would communicate that we have experienced great loss. However, loss is only loss if it is longed for, but through hope, loss has no room in a space where lessons are learned and applied. At this stage, there is no clear sight, but there is clear knowing that better or simply different is always an option.
Secondly, knowing how to recognize the possibilities and opportunities that hope provides. Having hope gives us the understanding that we can. Recognizing the method of how we can provides direction on how we will get to our desire(s). Growing up, we often heard, “ Don’t get distracted by the storm and miss the blessings of rain.” This is another life philosophy we live by. Every condition that life presents is full of answers, lessons, opportunities, and grace. Some methods are very clear and seemingly more simple. For example, perhaps we’d love to sail today; however, a storm interrupted those plans. So now every sailor and family enjoys lunch together. And that lunch provided the best conversation for new ideas and events that will improve our experiences while sailing. It was always clear that conversation needed to happen. And in other cases it’s not so clear, but you trust it; why?
Because you have hope, and your hope has proof of many concepts. For example, to decide with very few resources.
On paper, we may struggle to see a way beyond this. However, decide with hope, trust, and faith. Not immediately understanding why, nor receiving a clear reward afterwards. These are the moments and events that slowly present themselves in life's most beautiful moments. This lesson took a year to come into fruition. But now it is so clear as to why. And normally it’s because we aren’t quite ready for the moment we desire so deeply. And now that we are clear as to why the value of the desire is richer, the wisdom provided through the process nurtures legacy, and mostly now we can enjoy these desires and protect the memories we create with them.
Thirdly, knowing that your hope gives you the ability to create opportunities. Sometimes hope is like a mirror. A mirror that we may look at, but perhaps we are not seeing what is actually being shown. When hope is present, it can be the exact catalyst of ideas, inspiration, and most of all revelation. Hope can reveal what you are capable of. And knowing your capability is a supernatural strength that we all have. These are moments when we quiet ourselves and connect to ourselves. And in that quietness, we explore what resources, abilities, and skill-sets we carry to thrive beyond our current circumstances.
See, hope is a key element to our motivation and will to live beyond our window. Hope allows us to run beyond the boundaries of a meadow that was never meant to hold us. Hope is a precious source, so preserve and protect. Because “ Where there is hope, there is life.”
